Nigerian Universities and Polytechnics Offering Nutrition and Dietetics
Nutrition and Dietetics is the study of the physical, microbiological and chemical makeup of food, its nutrients and how these nutrients affect human health. Health is not limited to physical health. What we consume also has impact on our emotional, as well as, mental health. Professionals in this area translate scientific knowledge about food into practical information to help people change their eating habits in order to improve their complete wellbeing.
Nutritionists and Dietitians also prescribe certain diets to people with special needs such as the diabetics and pregnant women, just as the Pharmacists prescribe drugs to people.
Graduates of Nutrition and Dietetics can get jobs as Consultant Dietitians, Research Dietitians and Nutritionists, Clinic Dietitians and Nutritionists, Therapeutic Dietitians, Industrial Nutritionists, Public Health Nutritionists or Nutrition Educators. It is a four year bachelor’s degree program. Nigerian Universities and Polytechnics offering Nutrition and Dietetics have it as a department under the Faculties of Agriculture, Medical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Science or Health Sciences in Nigeria. This course is not particularly competitive so you have high chances of getting admission into any of the Nigerian Universities and Polytechnics listed below.
