The Osun State University (UNIOSUN) will on Monday 21st September 2020 convocation ceremony, graduate one thousand nine hundred and forty-six (1946) graduands, which is made up of one thousand eight hundred and ninety-four (1894) undergraduate graduands and fifty-two (52) postgraduate and Diploma graduands, with thirty-five (35) First Class, six hundred and three (603) Second Class Upper Division, nine hundred and seventy-two (972) Second Class Lower Division, two hundred and seventy-four (274) Third Class, ten (10) Pass, nineteen (19) postgraduate and 33 Diploma graduands from various programmes spread across the 11 faculties in the University.

The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Labode Popoola disclosed this during the flag-off of the handover of the convocation kits to the management of FedEx, the courier service provider that will be delivering the kits to the doorsteps of the graduands ahead of the 9th convocation ceremony of the University.

According to him, we are committed to the fulfillment of our mission of creating a unique institution, committed to the pursuit of academic innovation, skill-based training, and a tradition of excellence in teaching, research, and community service even during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

“We have over the last six months continued with virtual teaching, conducted virtual matriculation, virtual assessment and now we are graduating another set of graduands virtually. Instead of complaining, we are always ahead proffering solutions and this is why we have over the last one year deployed series of success-driven techniques that have continued to yield positive results as evident in our numerous achievements.

“Part of our success story in recent time is the commencement of the UNIOSUN Solutions forum, which is proudly supported by UNIOSUN Global Affairs and Sustainable development Institute (GASDI), an educative radio programme that is set to deliberate and proffer solutions to some developmental challenges in the country and address issues of sustainable development in unique, creative and efficient ways that can fast-track the attainment of the SDGs and unleash development in different communities of the country. I am glad to tell you now that the radio progranmme is now becoming a talk of the town and a means where the academics are bridging the gap between the town and the gown in assisting the government to make the best policy.”

Professor Popoola further stated that the University’s efforts in complementing the government in tackling the menace of COVID-19 are also worthy of mention, as the University started with an enlightenment seminar on COVID-19 for the people in its host communities; distributed relief palliatives to its host communities through the traditional rulers of the communities; launched an online forecasting model to advise the government on the right decision to take; deployed awareness/educative jingles on how to stay safe during COVID-19 on radio and billboards in five different languages: English, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and pidgin; created a mechanical sanitizing cubicle where people can easily wash their hands, and sanitize the whole body, which is available for purchase by companies, schools, government, and the general public at an affordable cost,” Professor Popoola added.

The management under the leadership of Professor Labode Popoola thereby congratulates the graduands in advance and wishes them well in their future endeavors.
