About UNICAL JUPEB

The University of Calabar Joint University Preliminary Examination Board (UNICAL-JUPEB) is an A’level programme that prepares students for successful academic career.

JUPEB also offers admission into 200 level degree programmes in any faculty at the Universities in Nigeria.

The Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) is a national Examination body approved on December 30th, 2013 by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

A conglomerate or assemblage of ten (10) partnering Nigerian Universities and JAMB formally established it in April 2014.

It is governed by a governing Board chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos.

The University of Calabar became an affiliate member of JUPEB in 2017. The programme has provided an alternative platform for students to gain admission directly into 200 level in various departments and faculties in the University of Calabar.

The governing body of the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) approves all courses.

The board examines candidates in 19 basic subjects, which are basic requirements for an undergraduate degree programme at the 200 level in any of the affiliate and partner universities in Nigeria.

The 19 available subjects for examination are structure into three categories;

1. Arts/Humanities
2. Social/Management Sciences
3. Science

Note that

• JUPEB certificate is accepted in over 95% of the universities in Nigeria for direct entry (DE) admission into 200 level.
• JUPEB candidates do not need to write UTME before gaining admission.
• JUPEB certificate does not expire.
• The nine months of studying for this programmes equates the period of time spent in 100 level of any university which simply means you don’t have to waste time applying for 100 level admission.
• The fees must not be paid once, part of it is be paid during the first semester while you pay the rest later on during the second semester.

UNICAL JUPEB Duration

The programme lasts for nine (9) months and is divided into two semesters. During this period, students are exposed to intensive lectures from Mondays to Friday every week and a weekly C.A. test on Fridays.’

All our centres highly equipped laboratories avail the students the opportunity of undertaking all the practical required for the programme.

UNICAL JUPEB Eligibility

Eligible candidates must possess a minimum of 5 Credits at a maximum of two sittings in at least 5 subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) relevant to the candidate’s desired course of study in the University.

Applicants are to register for a combination of 3 subjects according to their proposed course of study in the University.

• Four (4 Passport Photographs )
• Birth Certificate
• Certificate of State of origin (Optional)
