Edo Sports Festival Postponed: UNIBEN New Resumption Date
This is to notify the general public that the 2020 National Sports Festival has been postponed indefinitely due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The Festival was expected to hold in Edo state in March 2020 which was the reason for the mid-semester break observed by all University of Benin Students. Surprisingly, the Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare announced the postponement of the Festival via a tweet earlier today.
“Following the briefing of Mr. President from myself and the Minister of State for Health on COVID 19, Mr. President approved the immediate postponement of Edo Sports festival to a future date,” he tweeted.
This development contradicts an initial statement released by the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire. Dr. Osagie gave an assurance that the coronavirus will not stop the National Sports Festival from holding due to the country’s success in tackling the coronavirus disease. Dr. Osagie Ehaniree stressed that most of the athletes at the event are based in Nigeria and there was no need to stop or postpone the national event because the country was not threatened by the virus.
When is UNIBEN New Resumption Date?
However, this new development has provoked a huge question in the mind of all University of Benin Students. A lot of people are already asking: “When is UNIBEN New resumption date?” “Are we resuming immediately or as previously scheduled?”
Sequel to the above, the University of Benin management is yet to release an official statement as to when academic activities will commence. However, ASUU is still on strike and that will be observed before any new date of resumption.
Furthermore, the school management will weigh the option of allowing students from all parts of the country to resume, considering the dangers of spreading the Coronavirus disease.
We will update you on the new resumption date. Before then, stay safe!
