About IMSU
Imo State University located in Owerri, Imo State is a state-owned university funded by the Imo state government. The university was founded in 1981.
The university encourages its students to be creative in providing solutions to problems from the knowledge they gain in school. The university as no accommodation facilities to the best of our knowledge.
Imo State University also has no religious affiliation and its student body isn’t so diverse culturally because the bulk of its students are from the Igbo ethnic group with a few from south south Nigeria.
The university offers degree programs in science, arts, management, education, agriculture, and medicine. Imo state university has a large student body and admission into it is very competitive.

Faculty of Medicine
UTME: Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in one sitting.
Direct entry: IMSU accepts a good Honours degree (minimum of second class upper) in a relevant discipline.

Faculty of Engineering
- Agricultural Engineering
Five O’ level credit not more than two sittings in English language, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and any other from agricultural science, further mathematics, economics, biology, technical drawing, and geography.
Direct Entry: Candidates with upper credit level passes in national diploma (ND) or its equivalent qualification in agricultural engineering may be admitted into the 200 level of the department.
- Electrical Engineering
Candidates must have a credit pass of not more than two sittings in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent as approved by the senate of Imo State University in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and any other subject from Agricultural Science, Further Mathematics, Economics, Biology, Technical Drawing, and Geography.
Direct Entry: Candidates with Upper Credit level passes in National Diploma (ND) or its equivalent qualification in Electrical /Electronic Engineering and Computer Engineering may be admitted into the 200 level of the department.
- Civil Engineering
Candidates must have a credit level pass of not more than two sittings in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent as approved by the Senate of Imo State University in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and any other science or technical subject.
Direct Entry: Candidates with upper credit level passes in OND or its equivalent qualification in Engineering may be admitted into the 200 level.

Faculty of Law
UTME: Candidates of this category must possess a Senior Secondary Certificate, or an ‘0’ Level Certificate with credit passes in five (5) subjects, including English Language and English Literature obtained at not more than two sittings.
At least one of the credits must be in a science subject or at least pass in Mathematics, such a candidate must also have an acceptable pass in the Joint Matriculation, Examination.
Direct Entry: Candidates of this mode of admission must conform to the National Universities requirements for direct entry. Those include:
* Must satisfy U.T.M.E. requirements in (i) above plus A two-year or three-year Diploma certificate or second-class upper or lower division degree in related courses;
* Must satisfy U.T.M.E. requirements in (i) above plus Three (3) papers at the Principal or Advanced level in the Higher School Certificate or G.C.E.
* Must satisfy U.T.M.E. requirements in (i) above plus two papers at Principal or Advanced level or H.S.C or G.C.E.
Faculty of Health Science
- Optometry
UTME ENTRY: Candidates must have at least five O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in one sitting; applicants must also satisfy the PUTME requirements.
DIRECT ENTRY:
WASC/GCE A’ Level passes in Physic, Chemistry, and Biology with SSCE/GCE O’Level credit passes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English Language in one sitting.
Holders of 1st Degree at least second class lower division in relevant health courses, with five credits in one seating as at (1) above are eligible for admission into 200 level.
Holders of HND with a minimum of Upper Credit Pass are eligible for admission into the 200 level, with five credits in one seating as at (1) above, depending on the appropriateness of their requisite academic preparation.
- Nursing Science
UTME: Candidates must have an appropriate pass in the UTME examination of the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB). In addition, the candidate must hold WASC/SSCE/ GCE/NECO or its equivalent with at least credit in 5 subjects (at not more than two sittings) including English language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
Direct Entry:
a. Candidates with a Registered Nurse certificate must have five credits at an ordinary level which must include English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics at a credit level at not more than two sittings,
b. Candidates with a GCE Advanced level certificate must also have an appropriate pass in the screening test of the university.
c. Degree holders in science disciplines with not less than 2nd Class Honours may be admitted through direct entry.
Direct Entry students will be placed at the 200 level of study.
The non-nursing qualified direct entry students will be expected to sit for at least 2 professional examinations like UTME candidates. Already trained nurses can sit for the professional examination not already possessed.

Imo State University school fees for Indigenous Students
If you are from Imo state, and your father is from Imo state, then you will be made to make the following payment as tuition fees.
Please note that non indigene has been directed to make a payment of 20,000 while the state government covers the rest cost.
We don’t know for sure if new students will be asked to pay the actual 20,000 naira or if they will forced to pay the official fees.
Faculty of Business Administration
Banking and Finance, Accountancy, HTM, etc costs ₦75,000
Faculty of Education tuition fee
all departments under education costs ₦75,000
Faculty of Engineering tuition fee
all departments under engineering costs ₦90,000
Faculty of Humanities tuition fee

For Law, it costs ₦90,000
