About UNIJOS
The University of Jos, abbreviated as Unijos, is a Federal University in Jos, Plateau State, central Nigeria.
What became the University of Jos was established in November 1971 from the satellite campus of the University of Ibadan. The first students were admitted in January 1972 as pre-degree students and the first Bachelor of Arts degree program began in October 1973. In October 1975, the then military government under General Murtala Mohammed established the Unijos as a separate institution.
UNIJOS is unique among its peer institutions in having seven schools co-located on one contiguous campus, and all of them possess exceptional breadth and depth of excellence. This naturally facilitates multidisciplinary collaboration.
The university is committed to raising quality graduates to solve problems in different industries in the country. The university has a large student and staff population that is very diverse. Religious and cultural background as well as age brackets aren’t used criteria for admitting students into this university.

Revised School Charges: A Responsive Administration
The University Administration at the University of Jos, showing its unwavering commitment to carrying every stakeholder along, approved a significant reduction in the charges after a productive meeting with the expanded Students Union Government Executives of the University.
This meeting was imperative following the university’s earlier decision to revise its school charges structure, indicating its dedication to addressing the concerns raised by the student representatives effectively.
Concessions and Decisions: A Detailed Overview
- Reduction in Main Charges:
Returning students who are not enrolled in GST courses will now be required to pay ₦95,000.00, showing a reduction from the earlier ₦150,000.00. Those offering GST courses will pay ₦100,000.00.
- Adjustments for Fresh Students:
Fresh students are now entitled to pay ₦130,000.00, a substantial decrement from the initial N180,000.00.
- Facility Usage Charges:
The charges for Laboratory/Studio/Workshop are now ₦25,000.00 for students who exclusively use these facilities, marked down from ₦30,000.00
- Introduction of Instalment Payments:
A flexible installment payment structure has been approved, allowing both returning and new students to pay in two installments, depending on their usage of university facilities and the courses they are offering.
All returning students who are not utilizing laboratory, studio, or workshop facilities and are not enrolled in GST courses are required to pay ₦95,000.00 as the first installment and ₦10,000.00 as the second installment.
Returning students who are not utilizing laboratory, studio, or workshop facilities but are enrolled in GST courses are mandated to pay ₦100,000.00 as the first installment and ₦10,000.00 as the second installment.
Returning students who do not have GST courses but are utilizing laboratory, studio, or workshop facilities are required to pay ₦95,000.00 as the first installment and ₦35,000.00 as the second installment.
All returning students who are utilizing laboratory, studio, or workshop facilities and are enrolled in GST courses are mandated to pay ₦100,000.00 as the first installment and ₦35,000.00 as the second installment.
New students who are not utilizing laboratory, studio, or workshop facilities but are enrolled in GST courses are required to pay ₦130,000.00 as the first installment and ₦10,000.00 as the second installment.
New students who will be utilizing laboratory, studio, or workshop facilities and are enrolled in GST courses are mandated to pay ₦130,000.00 as the first installment and ₦35,000.00 as the second installment.
- Support for Indigent Students:
Two percent (2%) of the amount payable by all students will be allocated for assisting indigent students, with one-half dedicated to scholarships and the other half for expanding the University’s Work-Study programme.
- Provisions for Spilled-Over Students:
Students with one semester left to complete their studies will be required to pay only 50% of the reviewed charges.

UNIJOS General Admission Requirements
UTME ENTRY MODE – Five (5) year B. Agric. programme
Credit passes in five (5) WASCE/NECO/GCE (O’level) subjects and their equivalent as approved by the University Senate, including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Physics.
The credit pass in Agricultural Science must be backed up with at least a pass in Biology. In addition, candidates must have UTME JAMB scores high enough for the cut-off point set for the year in which the applications are being considered.
DIRECT ENTRY – Four (4) year B. Agric. programme
1) Passes at the Advanced Level in GCE, IJMB, or an approved equivalent examination in two or three of Chemistry and Biology or Chemistry and Botany/Zoology.
In addition, candidates must also meet the 5 credit passes in WASCE/NECO/GCE requirements as in UTME.
2) Holders of the following qualifications from institutions recognized by the University of Jos may also be considered for admission into the 200 level: National Diploma (ND) in Agriculture, Forestry, Animal Health/Production, and other relevant qualifications with at least an upper credit. Candidates must also meet the O’level requirements for UTME.
